Cruising the Adriatic blues is an experience in itself and when it includes port calls and shore excursions to some of the most well-hidden, off-the-beaten-path treasures of Europe then it makes the cruise experience even more exotic. Stay away from the touristy, crowded cities such as Paris, Rome and London – explore some very different facets of Europe with this Adriatic Cruise.
This 10-day cruise sails from the port at Civitavecchia, a seaside town near Rome. Sailing through the Strait of Messina, we arrive at Messina, by 1:00 PM, the next day.
Messina is the first port of call on this 10-day Adriatic cruise; at this third largest city of Sicily, enjoy shore excursions such as a Walking Tour of Taormina & the Greco-Roman Theatre; a Sicilian Wine Experience; a visit to the scenic Mt. Etna, the largest active volcano in Europe; or a walking tour of the locales, where the Godfather movie was shot.
Our next port of call on this cruise is the city of Valletta in Malta; here the cruise will stay docked for 2 days, giving you plenty of time and opportunities to explore the ancient treasures of Valletta – a city so ancient yet well-preserved that UNESCO listed its buildings in its heritage list, way back in 1980.
Shore excursions at Valletta include Guided City Tours of Mdina, Malta’s old capital and the Town of Mosta, home to the Mosta Church, which is renowned as the site of the 4th largest unsupported dome in the world. You can also sign up for tours of Malta’s Old & New Capitals or head southeast to Marsaxlokk Fishing Village for a more hands-on experience of Malta, shopping at the local markets, wine tasting, visiting the glass-blowing factory and enjoying a magnificent view of the city of Mdina and Mosta Dome from the Upper Terrace of the Ta ‘Qali’ Winery.
As the cruise ship docks in Valletta for two full days, passengers can easily keep one day for visiting the sites and the second day for the fishing village experience.
As we continue our Adriatic Dream Cruise along the Maltese archipelago, we reach our 3rd port on call – the Port of Mgarr in the island of Gozo, a 67 sq km island with a rich history, red sandy beaches, rocky formations, crystal clear water and great food. Stay on board or set out to explore the treasures of Gozo with any of the shore excursions available. The next day, you are at sea for the whole day; on the 6th day, we dock at Kerkira, the capital of the Island of Corfu, and a magnet for the elite, who love the elegant mixture of Greek, Italian and British influences on the island.
After visiting Corfu, Greece, we head towards Croatia and dock at the Port of Dubrovnik, a UNESCO World Heritage City with architecture and landmarks dating back to the Medieval Ages. Enjoy a walking tour of the Old Town of Dubrovnik; visit the countryside; take a beach break; and enjoy a cable car ride for an aerial view of the spectacular surroundings.
Enjoy an excursion to the Bosnian City of Mostar; visit the Crvik family vineyards; hop on for a kayaking adventure; or sign up for a Cruise with Purpose excursion to the Konavle Valley, where you can learn to extract a silk thread in the ancient, traditional way.
On the 8th day, this Adriatic Cruise sails into the Bay of Kotor and docks at Kotor, Montenegro. Kotor, like the other port of calls on this Adriatic Cruise, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Shore excursions to explore this part of Montenegro include tours to Budva via Njegusi, Walking tours of Kotor and sightseeing tour of Budva, a Kotor Bay cruise; and a Traditional Montenegro experience with visits to the old village of Lastva and Kotor.
Return to Croatia the next day, docking at Split, the second biggest city in the country. Enjoy a stroll through Split to visit its most important attractions or enjoy a panoramic drive to the Mestrovic Gallery, Solin and Trogir. The Adriatic Cruise continues to Venice, where the cruise ship stays docked for the last night of the cruise.
