Xian City Wall in Xian Tour Guide:
China’s might comes to the fore as you walk the Xian City Wall, one of the largest ancient military defence systems in the world and the most well preserved ancient walls of China. The massive wall that you see today is an extension of the old wall built by Emperor Zhu Yuanzhang to fortify the city from invaders. Even, today, so many centuries later the wall stands, tall and strong, dividing the city of Xian into the inner city and outer city.
Ramparts and sentry buildings atop the 12-metre tall wall helped the army protect the city further. Walk the wall, peek from the ramparts and enjoy exquisite views of Xian city throughout. You can even hire a bike and ride it atop the wall – the wall is 12 metres wide on the top and 15 metres thick at the very bottom, so riding a bike is easy. Furthermore, as the wall encircles the entire city, even today, you can enjoy a panoramic view of all its landmarks on either side of the wall.
