The Vienna Prater Tour Guide:
The saying goes that you have not been to Vienna if you have not been to Prater. One of the most symbolic icons of Vienna, Prater is a historic amusement park with the distinction of being the oldest parks in the world and one that was provided for by the Emperor himself for the entertainment of his subjects.
After originating as a private hunting ground for royalty in the 12th century, the Prater became the Entertainment venue of Vienna over the centuries and over several phases of development and re-development; inventors across Europe found in Prater a testing ground for their entertainment rides and creations. Several of its historic attractions and rides continue to this day.
Ride the iconic Giant Ferris Wheel, a symbolic icon of Vienna’s skyline since 1897; enjoy a wonderful journey through Prater on Liliputbahn, a mini-toy train ride; and escape to a world of fairy tales with a journey aboard the ghost train, Grottenbahn, that takes you through over 30 grottos.
Thrill seekers find their way to Praterturm or the Prater Tower, a 117-metre high chairoplane that swings you through the air at 61kmph; the Black Mamba that swirls through the air at 80kmph; and Praterdome, the biggest discotheque in the world. You can also delve back to the origins of Prater at Prater Museum; explore the stars and beyond at the Planetarium and savour mouth-watering traditional Viennese delicacies.
