Mirabell Palace and Gardens Tour Guide:
Sprawled across acres and acres of lush green grounds in the heart of Salzburg, the Mirabell Palace and Gardens offer a luxurious escape for most visitors. Built as a monument of love by Prince-Archbishop Wolf Dietrich von Raitenau for his wife, the Mirabell Palace underwent several renovations by later occupants. The design of the present structure is associated to the director of Vienna School of Architecture and the court’s architectural consultant, Peter de Nobile.
While the majority of the Mirabell Palace premises now house the government offices of Salzburg, visitors can enjoy a tour of the Marble Hall, the grand staircase and the spectacular gardens.
Marvel at the workmanship visible in the charming marble cherub sculptures along the marble balustrade as you ascend the Grand Marble Staircase; visit the exquisite Marble Hall, where the Prince Archbishops and their children waltzed around during balls and Mozart performed during his concerts. Now, the Marble Hall is considered one of the most beautiful wedding halls in the world and is the venue for several concerts as well.
Outside of the Mirabell Palace, roam the beautiful gardens freely. These gardens were immortalized when they served as a setting for the musical Sound of Music. Waltz around the gardens just as the Von Trapp family did and enjoy an amazing number of photo-ops around the stunning horticulture landscapes. Pose for photographs alongside the marble dwarfs in the Dwarf Garden; in the Hedge Theatre, the oldest garden auditorium on this side of the Alps; or with the Pegasus Fountain or the Spring Fountain with its magnificent statues as a backdrop. You can also enjoy a stroll through the Orangery and explore the Baroque Museum just beyond.
