Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary Tour Guide:
The best of Australian wildlife experiences await you at the Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary, Brisbane, the largest and the oldest Koala Sanctuary in the world. Spread across an area of 4.6 hectares, this world-renowned sanctuary is home to over 130 koalas, 130 kangaroos and wallabies, wombats, echidnas, Tasmanian Devils, Platypus and innumerable birds and flora.
Visitors to the Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary enjoy not just seeing and observing the antics and behaviour of these animals but get to interact with them personally. Cuddle a koala, capture the miraculous moment on camera; watch it jump about with its joeys and learn more about them from their keeper. Buy some kangaroo food and watch with delight as kangaroos, with joeys in their pouches, hop eagerly to you. Hand feeding these free-roaming kangaroos, wallabies and emus without any cage railings or fences between you is an experience unlike any other.
A rare treat awaits you at the Nature Kingdom; marvel at the agility, power and sharp claws and tendons of our free-flying birds of prey, especially raptors; learn more about them from their keepers; let them perch on your gloved hand for a close-up experience and be photographed in your moment of triumph. For a tamer but more interactive Aviary experience, head to the Lorikeet feeding venue, where hundreds of free-flying wild lorikeets descend for a special feeding session and plenty of action. You can even catch them bathing at the water fountains.
Boys (and girls brave enough to enter the reptile house) can enjoy an adventure of a lifetime handling the many snakes of the sanctuary. Hold, touch and feel olive pythons, black-headed pythons, jungle carpet pythons and diamond pythons; get wrapped and unwrapped and be photographed in the thick of the action.
The sanctuary offers a Platypus presentation and Sheep Dog Show and a range of tours such as the Keeper for a day, Wild Encounters, Behind-the-scenes tour, Platinum Tour and Sanctuary Highlights Tours that extend beyond the regular meet-and-greets as well.
